This event is new to the midwest area. If
you've ever heard of WE-fest than you know what Spirit Fest is
like. There are many different music groups that come to the
Detroit Lakes area and perform over a three day period. There
are other things to do also. There are campfires at night,
different boths for certain kinds of praise, food stands, games and a
huge area for talking, throwing a frisbee or football and for
sitting. There are camp groungs for campers.
A few of the groups were Newsboys, 4him, Michael
W. Smith, Amy Grant, Power of Grace band. Some of the nights
went late. Sat. and Sun. both went past 11:00 PM, but I had a
great time.

In July of 1998 I went on a youth trip to Colorado with my cousins' church. Their churches name is Bethel. We started out on our journey at noon on a friday. I think it was the 26 or so ( I could look it up but am writing this late so I don't want to wake parents) anyway my cousin Nate and I were on the Junior High bus waiting for the bus to leave. Sure enough a couple minutes after boarding we were asked to ride on the High school bus. That was great being I didn't know anyone and my cousin is in high school. The trip was fantastic. I thought it would suck at first being I didn't know anyone , but it ended up being one of my favorite trips of all time. And I've been to Florida and Hawaii. The trip was long and tiresome , but we had plenty of fun and excitement. I was getting to know everyone and we watched 3 or 4 movies before it was 2:00 in the morning Sat. The bus had stopped. I thought we might be in trouble. However, only a bus from another church was stalled. The kids from the bus had to load on our bus for the next 2 hours. I felt sorry for those kids cause they didn't have any seats. We finally made it to Colorado and were heading to the river for some white water rafting.
(Cont.) The rafting was great! It was a little cold at times
because it was early, but mostly it was refreshing. Nate and I went
with the Junior Highers for the rafting event. So my sister and the
rest of the Senior High was going to be going rafting later after us.
When we got done rafting we had lunch provided by the rafting
company. It was off to the campus after this.
Things settled down a bit when we arrived at the college campus. We
were staying at CSU (colorado state university). It was Saturday
night and we had unpacked everything into our dorm rooms for the
week. My cousin and I were rooming together along with two other
friends of his that are also in the band they put together. My cousin
(singer and guitar) , and three others: John (drums) , Arron (lead
singer and guitar) , (bass guitar) have a band called "Second Stage"
- meaning second stage to God who is first - which played down in
Colorado for the youth. Anyway later that same day around six or
so.
About supper time, my cousins , Nate, Lisa, Jenna, and my sister
Kelli along with my aunt Laniel went to meet my other cousin Brian.
We met him on campus and he took us to a mexican resturaunt. If your
new our family you wouldn't be surprised to hear we went to a mexican
resturaunt because it's one of our favorite types of resturaunts. We
also went to the mall down there and shopped for an hour or so. It
was great to be with my cousins. Did I mention my cousin Brian has a
girlfriend. Her name is Sarah. She was fun to meet too. Nate took
Brian's car for a ride back to his [brian's] place. His place
was very nice. I've always wanted to visit.
That night we got back around 10 or so and all that was left to do
was to go and have bible study and prayer time and hit the sacks. It
felt good to sleep.
(cont.) Sunday morning. The whole gathering hasn't even started yet. To begin the day we went to a park near the campus and had a church service with two other churches that traveled with us as a district. The service was awesome. We sang songs and listened to Andy, the main leader/paster of our group, preach. He has a great story that I might put on this site later on. It was about a young man in college and his experience first hand with God and his answers to prayer. You could already tell that the holy spirit was present at this gathering.
